Defence, Police & Emergency Services, formalise your service experience with a nationally recognised qualification.
Defence, Police & Emergency Services
Your service has given you skills.
We help you formalise them.
River Oak College has supported Defence personnel, veterans, police, paramedics, and first responders since our founding, through RPL, full study, or a combination of both.
Built for People Who've Earned Their Skills
In our experience working with Defence Personnel and First Responders, we have found that they often develop complex leadership, management and safety skills over the course of their service. We have also found that many have never had the opportunity to be formally credentialed for these skills.
River Oak College was founded with this community in mind. We understand the evidence structures, the operational context, and what genuine service experience looks like, and we know how to translate that into nationally recognised qualifications through a rigorous, credible assessment process.
Free RPL Eligibility Check
Not sure whether your experience qualifies for RPL? Contact us for a free eligibility check before you commit to enrolment. We'll review your background and tell you honestly where you stand.
Two Pathways. One Outcome.
Depending on your experience and goals, there are two ways to achieve your qualification with River Oak College. Some candidates have skills and knowledge that can be recognised through RPL, while others may have gaps that are better filled through formalised study. Many use a blend of both — some units via RPL, others studied.
Turn Experience Into Credentials
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that recognises what you already know and can do, based on your service record, workplace documents, and structured evidence submission. No study. No coursework. Your experience is the evidence.
RPL is a rigorous, credible pathway to a nationally recognised qualification. As Assessors, we assess your knowledge, skills, experience and expertise against the qualification requirements. RPL isn't always the best pathway, hence offering our free RPL eligibility check.

First responders and emergency managers have strong RPL pathways into WHS qualifications. ROC offers the full pathway from Cert III to Advanced Diploma, rare online.
PSP40122 / PSP50122 / PSP60122
Certificate IV / Diploma / Advanced Diploma of Government
Transitioning ADF members moving into APS or state government will find PSP qualifications directly relevant. River Oak is one of very few online RTOs nationally offering the full Government pathway.
BSB40520 / BSB50120
Certificate IV in Leadership & Management / Diploma of Business
Strong entry points or dual qualification options. Often completed alongside another qualification to maximise the value of a single enrolment period.
All qualifications are nationally recognised under the AQF. Contact us to confirm which qualification is the best fit for your background and next career step.

01
We Understand Structured Environments
We know what rank structures, operational documentation, and service records look like, and how they map to qualification evidence requirements.

No Campus Required
Everything is online. Whether you're on base, on deployment, or mid-transition, you can progress your qualification from wherever you are.
04
Flexible Around Shift Work
